Georgian PM vows construction of residential flats for servicemen

The construction of flats for the Georgian military personnel will be completed next year. The statement was made by Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia at a meeting with servicemen held at the Rehabilitation Center located in Tserovani.

The PM walked around the construction site of the residential blocks and a rehabilitation center and noted it will be the only facility of very high standards, equipped with advanced technologies.

"New rehabilitation center is being built in Tserovani for our hero servicemen, who got wounded in the fight for the territorial integrity of Georgia and international missions,” said Bakhtadze.

He expressed special gratitude to US partners for the support provided in the implementation of the project. The PM added that work on every project that is anticipated together with the Ministry of Defense of Georgia will also be continued.

"It is very important that construction of residential blocks for the contracted military personnel will be completed next year, which was committed by the State back in 2007," he said.

When meeting the servicemen in Tserovani, Bakhtadze said that it is the prime purpose of the project for the construction of residential blocks for servicemen, which is being implemented at Makhata Mountain in Tbilisi.

635 officers will get apartments in the first phase, upon completion of the construction while the second phase of the project will be launched from 2021.

"Construction of a new district for our officers will be completed in Tbilisi in two years. I issued relevant instructions and the second phase of the construction of residential blocks for young servicemen will start from 2021," noted he, adding partnership established by servicemen will be granted 10 hectares of land for a symbolic price at Makhata Mount from the Government through a direct sale procedure for the construction of a residential block.

Moreover, with an initiative of Bakhtadze, the residential construction project is commenced for internally displaced (IDP) veterans. According to him, the long-term housing program for IDP veterans will include 60 apartments to be granted in Kutaisi this year and 120 - in Tbilisi and Zugdidi next year.

"We are launching a special program for the construction of residential blocks for IDP veterans. Houses will be built in Zugdidi, Kutaisi, and Tbilisi. By the end of the year 60 IDP veterans will be granted apartments in Kutaisi, while 120 units will be assigned - next year," he noted.

In addition to this, Bakhtadze said the veterans suffering from chronic diseases be offered medicine for 1 GEL from September 2019. The initiative covers 35 branded medicines which are intended for cardio-vascular, respiratory system, Type B Diabetes, thyroid gland, epilepsy, and Parkinson's diseases.
